How ILO Works

Ways to Participate in ILO

You can participate in ILO in one of two ways:

You Can Become a Participating Family

ILO Participating Families are full members of ILO who have access to all the services for their self-advocates provided by ILO.

Participating Families:

  • Have a self-advocate involved in ILO.
  • Have participated in ILO’s two-day training which helps families understand the ILO’s philosophy about community building.
  • Have had their self-advocate take the Full Life™ Skills Inventory, which identifies daily living skills that need to be developed.
  • Work with other families in their local geographic area or “pod” to work on developing and improving independent living skills, and build the relationships that strengthen their personal network of support.
  • Attend quarterly participating family meetings, pod meetings, fundraisers, committee meetings, and so on.
  • Are full members of the ILO community.

If you are not ready to commit to full ILO membership, you can join the ILO Community Group.

Community Group Members:

  • Have access to a wide range of monthly social and recreational activities for self-advocates.
  • Can attend workshops and seminars organized by the ILO on topics such as special needs financial planning, government programs, public and private service providers, and many other topics of interest to families of self-advocates.

The ILO Community Group provides members with the opportunity to make meaningful connections and build relationships, which are the cornerstone of ILO’s philosophy.
