Please Invite Your Friends and Family to Hike, Bike & BBQ

We are only four weeks away from our annual Hike, Bike & BBQ family gathering.  This year we are encouraging everyone to bring their friends and family so we can share all ILO is doing and continue expanding our network of support for our families and self-advocates.

The set-up starts at 9:00 am on Sunday, May 21st followed by the BBQ lunch and program at 11:00 a.m.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with the event.  If you are able to help us please contact Chris Snowber.

Join Us for a Live Case Study Webinar

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Michael Dalto and Reda, Marc, and Robert Sheinberg
Independent Living, Government Benefits, and Financial Planning

The case study is designed to help Robert, one of ILO’s independent living self-advocates, and his family plan for his financial future, and to demonstrate to other ILO Families and ILO Community Group members how they might go about planning with their own self-advocates.

Michael Dalto, a consultant who has presented on work and public benefits to ILO families for several years, will be leading the session.

The live case study will review:

  • Robert’s current income and expenses.
  • Consider at least two future options involving increased earnings from employment.
  • Explore how increased earnings may help Robert improve his living arrangements.

The live case study will evaluate:

  • How safety nets, called work incentives, can help protect Robert’s essential public benefits while he works.
  • How he can save assets without jeopardizing his benefits.
  • How he may be able to use government programs to buy a home in the future.

There is even a program that might enable him to convert his Housing Choice Voucher from rental assistance to helping subsidize the purchase of a home.

Meet Michael Dalto

Michael Dalto is a big, old benefits geek.  He’s been helping people understand and use work incentives for Social Security and other benefit programs for 30 years.  He has trained and assisted thousands of people with disabilities, family members and professionals to use safety nets that help ensure people get ahead financially when they work, and that protect vital benefits. He created a state benefits planning certification in Maryland, supported VR agencies in Kentucky and Minnesota to assist people they serve to work their way off SSDI, developed curriculum for Virginia Commonwealth University’s national certification for benefits planners, helped create tiered benefits planning models in Michigan and Missouri, and a host of other projects.

Meet Marc, Reda,
and Robert Sheinberg

This incredible ILO family joined in 2015.  The parents, Marc and Reda, are both active in ILO’s Long-Term Facilitation Program.  Robert, their son, is 37 years old and was one of the original SAs to move into The Crossings.  Robert’s brother lives in Seattle, Washington and Robert is an Uncle to a 3-year-old boy.

We want to thank all three for being a part of this Live Case Study Webinar.
